WYDREX TECHNOLOGY
Our solutions address some of the common challenges faced by conventional filtration technologies. We do not produce huge amounts of sludge and rejected wastewater in the form of contaminated concentrate.
WYDREX combines two of the most advanced technology solutions available today with state-of-the-art electronics enabling fully autonomous operation to deliver the most advanced treatment to potable level.
Our BIO and NANO technologies combine unique benefits such as sludge and chemical reduction, significantly reduced footprint and power consumption charges whilst delivering an odour free solution making it ideal for built up areas. The end product is the highest quality drinking water with eliminated bacteria, viruses, medical residues, hormones, pesticides, toxins, heavy metals and micro plastics.
Whilst conventional Waste and Fresh water Treatment Technologies are energy intensive, accounting for between 5-10% of a country’s power consumption, WYDREX technologies can be powered off-grid from solar panels.
HOW IT WORKS
First stage: Wastewater treatment
WDX BIO
Our business was founded on three main principles: quality, pricing and service, and we pride ourselves on our commitment to them each day. We supply quality services at competitive pricing, no matter what the item may be.
Let us know how we can help your company or home.
We can’t wait to start working together.
Second stage: Water filtration
WDX NANO
Following biological treatment, WDX NANO filtration technology is used. Water is mechanically filtered and passed through the nano-glass filter, eliminating all viruses and bacteria. Water is then ionised, and split water molecules with attached contaminants are passed through a second nano filter. This filter uses a unique 3D structure that minimises power consumption and provides consistent guaranteed quality over the filter’s lifetime.
Unlike Reverse Osmosis, WDX NANO retains the desired level of minerals in water. Should the mineralisation level not be sufficient, another cartridge is used for additional mineralisation. The solution uses cartridge that works on physical and mechanical principles retaining excess minerals from hard water, but adding minerals if the water is excessively soft. Active carbon is used to retain any microscopic toxins, heavy metals or odours bound to the water. In the solution for residential developments the water flows through coconut fibres, to add a pleasant smell. The effluent water is not only mechanically, chemically and biologically clean, but also provides a pleasant taste for its users.
The final configuration
WDX NANO
The final configuration of devices may change based on specific client needs – e.g. arsenic removal or mineralisation. These risks are always assessed at the beginning of the process and addressed on a tailored basis.

Competitive advantages
Properties
Properties
ODOUR-FREE OPERATION
The whole operation is odour free, even with open basins for biological treatment. The processed sludge is also odour-free. WDX BIO allows water recycling at the location where the waste was created – avoiding long-distance water transportation and the creation of a protective zone around the plant.
SLUDGE REMOVAL
80 to 91% of sludge is biologically removed in the treatment process. The organic content is consumed by bacteria and when these bacteria die, they become food for the next bacteria generation. While on conventional municipal plants the sludge is extracted once or twice per month, WDX BIO plants require extraction only once or twice per year. If a separate sludge tank is built, extraction isn’t necessary until after 18 months.
The effluent sludge consists of up to 70% minerals and 30% dead organic matter. Once dried in the sun or stabilised using a small amount of slaked lime, the sludge can be used as a safe fertiliser.
LOW POWER CONSUMPTION
Both technologies – WDX BIO and NANO – achieve very small power consumption levels. In many regions they can be powered by solar panels or wind turbines. This reduces their carbon footprint even further.
CHEMICAL CONSUMPTION
In most applications, WDX BIO plants do not use any chemical products or agents. They contain twice the amount of bacteria of conventional plants, producing enough enzymes to run natural coagulation activity without added chemicals. In municipal wastewater the bacteria also decomposes any oil and grease present.
If the water is reclaimed or released to eutrophic waters a precipitation agent for phosphorus retention is added. Only biodegradable iron salts are used. Our process is so effective that a WDX BIO plant needs only 5% of the precipitation agent used in conventional plants.
Footprint savings
WDX BIO
Plant Footprint
The WDX BIO plant is significantly smaller than most conventional plants. Only Reverse Osmosis technology achieves a smaller footprint area.
WDX BIO completely omits clarification tanks as it does not undertake primary treatment, instead treating 100% of sludge biologically. The processed sludge clarifier is also omitted, as we use sludge separators embedded in aeration tanks. We remove over 80% of sludge biologically so we don’t need sludge management, digesters or any related infrastructure including service roads. In total, large Wydrex plants can save up to 82% when compared with a conventional biological plant’s footprint.
WDX BIO process
The basic schema of the Wydrex biological treatment process:
An equalising tank creates hydraulic pressure to secure the reactor, ensuring bacteria are not flushed out by rainwater. It is also used for equalising flow at peak/off-peak periods. The wastewater is pumped from the equalising tank to the reactor(s).
Pre-treatment uses screens for large solids extraction. The need for large solids extraction can be monitored and reported. On some applications traps for sand, oil and grease are also included. Wydrex technology does not use any primary treatment. Instead of extracting sludge prior to treatment, we treat 100% of wastewater volume biologically.
The biological reactor consists of aerobic, anoxic and anaerobic zones. All three zones are strictly separated and their conditions carefully monitored and managed. This approach creates specific conditions in which bacteria create enzymes able to follow the shortened nitrogen cycle.
The treatment process is fully autonomous. Wastewater enters the anaerobic zone, where it’s mixed with sludge containing a high level of NO2. In its presence, bacteria break down methane into N2 immediately, removing the unpleasant odour. The Wydrex management system carefully guards against individual environments mixing together and destroying their unique properties.

The aerobic zone can be temporarily used for denitrification, should the demand arise whilst treating high organic load.

A sludge separator is used to settle the active sludge and clarify the clean water. In contrast to conventional technologies, the separator has no moving parts. It has a rectangular footprint and is integrated directly in the aerobic zone. Clean water is released from the sludge separator or enters the optional filter.
A sludge tank temporarily holds larger amounts of sludge. After sludge is collected, it is fed back into the process until most of its organic content is removed. In the majority of installations the sludge tank is integrated.

CERTIFICATION
CE certified
COMPLIANT TO US MILITARY AND BANK ENCRYPTION STANDARDS
Wydrex electronics does not work like electronics on conventional plants which are mainly timer or relay based or use generic PLC’s for providing the same functionality.
In contrast Wydrex algorithms covers all normal parameters the plant will operate under. It manages the operation of the plant autonomously optimising performance and power consumption. When higher contamination is present, the process automatically intensifies. At low inflow or lower contamination levels the treatment intensity is automatically reduced to save power. Special modes like temporary denitrification in the aerobic chamber or running the most power consuming activities at cheaper night current rates can be implemented.
INDUSTRIES
WDX technology provides highly efficient biological treatment. It can be applied anywhere where biological contamination is predominant. Typical industries include:
Municipal wastewater treatment

LIFETIME
The technology lifetime is 20 years. Individual components wearing differ – details are included in a proposal and user manual.
Higher water volume production
With traditional Reverse Osmosis solutions, only 20-40% of water reaches the desired effluent level, meaning up to 80% of wastewater is rejected. WDX NANO is able to recycle approximately 66% of water up to potable level while working with the same level of contamination. When combined with WDX BIO, the water production volume is even higher.
Low power consumption
Both technologies – WDX BIO and NANO – achieve very small power consumption levels. In many regions they can be powered by solar panels or wind turbines. This reduces their carbon footprint even further.
Safe from biohazards, including viruses
The Wydrex NANO solution provides effluent water safe of any biohazard risk. It eliminates all bacteria and viruses that could survive biological treatment and sanitation. It also eliminates any hormones (including oestrogen, testosterone), antibiotics and other medicine that could be present in the wastewater from local inhabitants. Reduction of heavy metals and radioactive isotopes forms part of the solution as well.
Upon request a configuration is available which also removes toxins such as arsenic. The Wydrex NANO Profi version can produce potable water almost from any liquid or chemical containing water.
Guaranteed quality and performance
While clogging of Reverse Osmosis membranes significantly decreases the amount of water produced and increases power consumption, WDX NANO has the same guaranteed effluent quality and volume production over its lifetime. Our membranes’ 3D nano structure provides consistent operating performance as it never gets completely clogged during its lifetime. Moreover at the end of its lifetime, only half of its nominal capacity is used. This buffer allows us to guarantee continuous and consistent quality.
